1. Federal primary sources

2. Device sources

All iPhone specifications, dimensions, camera details, and iOS-support timelines are sourced from Apple's own technical specification pages at apple.com/iphone/compare and the model-specific tech-spec pages linked from it.

Retail comparison prices are the current Apple retail price for the same SKU, taken directly from apple.com. Where a Lifeline provider ships a specific storage variant, the comparison price on this site is for that same variant.

3. Provider research methodology

For every Lifeline provider we cover, our editors:

  1. Read the provider's current terms of service, Lifeline eligibility statement, and device catalog end-to-end.
  2. Log the states and ZIP prefixes where the provider is currently accepting Lifeline enrollments.
  3. Cross-check the provider's USAC ETC (Eligible Telecommunications Carrier) designation using the FCC's public USAC filings.
  4. Record every iPhone model the provider lists as available in the last 30 days, and note stock rotation frequency.
  5. Run a mystery-shopper enrollment when practical and record the actual approval-to-shipping timeline.

4. Reader-report methodology

Shipping-timeline averages published on device pages are computed from reader reports we have personally verified against their Lifeline enrollment confirmation. We do not include unverified reports in any published average. Q2 2026 averages on this site are based on 47 verified reports across 22 states.

5. What we do not treat as a source

  • Aggregator, "top 10", or SEO-farm sites that rewrite other publishers' content.
  • AI-generated summaries, unless the underlying primary source can be independently verified.
  • Anonymous social-media posts, unless corroborated by a primary source or a verified reader report.
  • Provider marketing pages taken alone - we cross-check every marketing claim against the provider's terms of service and USAC records.
